Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is performed with extremely thin, flexible stainless steel needles. It is nothing like receiving an injection. In some cases, you will not even know the needles are in place. Most people find acupuncture very relaxing, and may fall asleep during treatment.
Is acupuncture safe? Any side effects?
We only use Sterile, one-time use, disposable needles by the clinical guidlines of the organisation (NZASA). Basically there are no adverse effects from acupuncture if properly operated.
How long does a session last??
The first visit consultation can take up to an hour and a half, and for the follow- up visit, the average treatment lasts about 45 mins to 1 hour, depending upon the problem being treated.
How many treatments will I need?
The course of treatment depends on the condition, the severity and duration of the condition. On average, with weekly treatment a condition should show some improvement within 6-10 visits. If you do not see any improvement during that time, it may be appropriate to re-evaluate with the doctor whether or not to continue in treatment.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a therapy that uses the insertion of thread- like needles to specific points on the body along meridians (energy channels of the body). As long as the energy flows freely through these pathways, health is maintained. When the flow of energy is disturbed for any reason, there is disruption in health, resulting in pain or illness. By stimulation the proper acupuncture points along these meridians, the energy is regulated, and health is restored. Modern scientific research has also confirmed that acupuncture promotes the production of natural healing substances to relieve pain, regulate nerve transmission, enhance the immune system and relax muscle spasm.
What should I do before treatment?
It is better to:
- Avoid drinking coffe/ alcohol.
- Avoid large meal immediately prior to acupuncture
- Avoid empty stomach/ hungry
- Avoid under influence of drugs, cigarettes, caffeine.
